I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone

Title: I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone
Author: Stephanie Kuehnert
Grade: A+
Ideal Audience: Boys & Girls, 14 & up
Reading Type(s): The Down-to-Earth Reader & The Master Reader

Summary: Emily's always been told that her mother, Louisa, left her when she was a baby to go follow rock 'n' roll. Now Emily is a teenager, and she wants to bring her mom home. So she and her friends create a band, and soon enough they're playing punk rock all over the country.

Not all is glamorous, however. Emily's relationship with Johnny may be more dangerous than she knows, and her best friend, Regan, is traveling downhill. Emily fears becoming the "ultimate cliche", a punk rock band addicted to drugs and alcohol. Occupying her mind more than anything is her biggest concern: why she hasn't yet found Louisa. Now that Emily's band is rocking, they should have been reunited by now-- if her father was telling the truth.

My thoughts: I LOVED this book! Stephanie Kuehnert doesn't make it a fairytale: it's as real as it gets, and I like the honesty portrayed in the novel. Also, although Emily tries to make herself sound tough and hardcore, it really is a touching story. I'd recommend it to all teenagers.

(By the way, two cool things about this post: it was published at 8AM on August- the eighth month- eighth, and it's my 200th post! Yay!)

Yay! I'm glad you loved it. I did too. It really is a great, intense read with an emotional storyline and an characters that try to act tough, but are just as normal as the rest of us!
