Luke lives in a future world, a world where there is a Population Law that forbids a family from having more than two children. If you break the law, you will be fined an impossible $5 million... or you will be executed. And Luke is a third child. For twelve years, it wasn't so bad for Luke. The drawbacks were that he couldn't go to school, but who cared about school, anyway? He couldn't go into town and his only clothes were hand-me-downs from his older brothers, but he also liked the special attention he would receive from his mother. After all, he could still go outside, into the forest.
But when the Government decides to tear down the trees and build Government houses where the woods once were, Luke can no longer venture outside. He is confined to his house; he spends most of the time in his attic. He cannot go near windows, cannot make sound. Until he meets Jen, another third child, who shows Luke that freedom for third children just might be possible.
Margaret Peterson Haddix's amazing novel can be read on many levels, and will therefore be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Love your blog keep up the good work!!!!
I thought Among the Hidden was a great book! But I will have to say that this isn't one of my favorites that Haddix has done.
Double Identity I think is one of her best books.
